Fourth District Supervisor James Gore invites community members to apply for positions on local policy-making bodies. Applications and a list of all boards, commissions, and committees to which the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors appoints members is available online at sonomacounty.ca.gov/Boards-Commissions-Task-Forces/.
“Local government leaders want to hear your thoughts and your ideas on how to make improvements to a variety of issues in our community,” said Gore. “Please consider joining one of more than 75 Sonoma County boards and commissions and let your voice be heard.”
In the Fourth District, Gore is currently calling for applicants for the following commissions and boards:
Commission on the Status of Women: Two vacancies. The purpose of the Commission on the Status of Women is to promote equal rights and opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all women and girls, and to address issues of discrimination and prejudice that negatively affect women in Sonoma County. Through 2018, the commission will focus on the following issues that affect women and girls: affordable childcare, intimate partner violence, mental health and suicide.
Additionally, the commission provides mentorship to youth in the form of the Junior Commissioner Project, and through collaboration, outreach and the work of the Legislative Affairs Committee, the commission supports community efforts to encourage women to seek elected and appointed office, eradicate human trafficking, prevent elder abuse and protect the reproductive and healthcare rights of women and girls.
Commission on Human Rights: One vacancy. The primary purpose of the Commission on Human Rights is to promote better human relations among all people in Sonoma County through education, advocacy, and by initiating action that fosters the recognition of, and appreciation for, the diversity of our community.
