League tourney moves to Petaluma High School on Saturday
West County High School wrestlers will ratchet up the intensity level this weekend when they take the mat at the Sonoma County League Championships.
The SCL tournament moves to Petaluma High School this Saturday, Feb. 20, with both team and individual league titles at stake for all participants.
The action starts at 9 a.m. with the preliminary matches, with the championship round expected to start in the afternoon.
Healdsburg (6-0) enters the league tourney as the team to beat after completing an unbeaten dual meet season, followed by Petaluma (5-1), Analy (4-2) and El Molino (3-3).
Athletes will be gunning for a top three finish in their respective weight class, good for advancement to the North Coast Section Championships next week.
Both Analy and El Molino will have several league contenders, most notably Analy’s 108-pound Trevor Bagan, 115-pound Dalton Gavriloff, 142-pound Yogi Bazzano and 197-pound Ariel Merhav.
League hopefuls for the Lions include 128-pound Abraham Martinez, 142-pound Sam MacDonell, 162-pound Josh Wright, 184-pound Thomas Mitchell and 197-pound Leo Garza.
The NCS tournament will be held on Feb. 26-27, at James Logan High School in Union City. A top three finish at NCS will mean a coveted trip to the CIF State meet set for Mar. 4-5, at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield.
