Silva, Fredrickson capture individual titles; advance to state

The Jaguars enjoyed an historic weekend of wrestling at the North Coast Section Championships on Feb. 23-24, turning in one of the best performances in school history.
The meet, hosted by James Logan High School in Union City, consisted of preliminary rounds on Friday, with the championship matches contested on Saturday.
The goal for most athletes was a top-three finish in their weight class, good for advancement to the elite CIF State Wrestling Championships at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield on March 2-3.
Windsor was represented by wrestlers in 10 weight divisions, garnering a total of four top-six medals and two individual champions to stamp the Jaguars among the powerhouse teams at the meet. It was the sixth year in a row that the Jags finished in the top five in overall team points.
“We were missing freshman Gil Brantley and senior (David) Perez, the defending NCS Champion from illness and an injury,” Jags coach Rich Carnation reported. “That really hurt our final scoring as a team by the end of the night — Windsor would have finished in a strong second place.”
Junior 108-pound dynamo Blake Fredrickson and talented 152-pound sophomore Trent Silva led the charge, both navigating their brackets unscathed at 5-0 to stamp their tickets to state. Fredrickson scored pins in all five of his matches, while Silva scored three pins and two major decisions.
Also turning in outstanding efforts at NCS were 113-pound Brandon Fong (2-2), 120-pound Justin Campbell (5-3, sixth place), 126-pound Tony Russotti (3-2), 132-pound Conor Brown (4-3, sixth place), 138-pound Brennan Brown (2-2), 160-pound Josh Wagner (1-2), 182-pound Lorenzo Leon (3-2), 197-pound Alex Cruz (1-2), 220-pound Ben Smith (0-2) and heavyweight Austin Jacob (4-2).
