Number one – Windsor junior Blake Fredrickson (middle) stood atop the podium after capturing the 113-pound weight class at the prestigous Tim Brown Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

The Windsor High School wrestling teams had an action packed week with two home dual meets, soundly defeating Maria Carrillo (56-12) and Montgomery (73-3).
Friday, the team sent five wrestlers to the prestigious Tim Brown Memorial Tournament in Sacramento. Leading the Windsor contingent was 113-pound junior Blake Fredrickson, winning the championship match against previously unbeaten Keanu Perez of Sonora. Fredrickson took down Perez three times in the first period of the finals before pinning him to capture his second championship at the annual bellwether tournament.
Sophomore Trent Silva had another great weekend, advancing to the finals. Along the way, Silva pinned his first opponent from Modesto and won his second match by technical fall (18-2). In the quarterfinals, he recorded a 10-7 victory and repeat of last year’s NBL league championship over senior Harry Bruno of Cardinal Newman. In the semifinal match, Silva beat senior Nahele Tonge of Elk Grove, the #20 ranked wrestler in the State 4-3 in a hard fought match. In the finals against the number-one seed senior and eighth-ranked state wrestler Jackson Redhair of Oak Ridge, Silva came up just a bit short, 5-3.
Sophomore Justin Campbell placed eighth in his first appearance at the Tim Brown Memorial. Campbell was wrestling well against Liberties Gregerson, his fellow NCS placer from last year when Campbell was in on a takedown and got caught in a move that ended the match.
Campbell was pretty disappointed as he was winning that match when he got caught. He is still only three tournaments deep of experience in high school wrestling as he missed his freshman year of wrestling with a broken shoulder from football.
Conor Brown, wrestling with the flu and his first time at 128 this year, still had a good tournament, going 3-1 on his first day of competition before the day’s activities caught up with him and coach Carnation stopped his fifth match of the day about one minute into the match. We’re going to let Brown rest up and get back at it real soon.
Brennan Brown also had a good tournament, beating the number six-seeded wrestler DeLafuente of Yuba City 7-4 before losing to the eventual third place winner, Brown incurred an injury in that match but tried to wrestle his next match against Petaluma’s Pederson, a wrestler he had beaten twice before previously, Brown lost 7-6 and Pederson ended up placing seventh.
In Sonoma, at the Deets Winslow Memorial Tournament on Saturday, junior Brandon Fong led a contingent of Windsor wrestlers by winning the 120-pound weight class. It was Fong’s second tournament championship. Senior Raven Davis worked his way into the finals where he had a buzz saw to deal with. Davis has now placed in the San Marin, Nor Cal and Winslow Memorial.
Freshman standout Gil Brantley started the day off a little slowly by losing to his first opponent, host Sonoma High’s Lawson Lee, 5-4. Brantley won his next few matches only to get redemption by beating Lee 3-1 for a third place finish. Anchoring the team was sophomore Cooper Strangland who finished the day placing third with a pin of Piner’s Clayton Carter.
Girls log wins
Windsor’s Lady Jags also had an impressive week in winning dual meets against Maria Carrillo and Montgomery. At the Michael Kropman Memorial tournament in Clear Lake, sophomore Ivory Osborn led her teammates by finishing second in the 116-pound weight class. Freshman and first year wrestler Rose Chavez also placed second in the 106-pound weight class. Chandler Holbrook gained valuable experience in placing fifth in the 131-pound weight class at this annual girls tournament.
