Winnie (Sexton) Cline died peacefully on October 18, 2016 at her home in Olympia, Washington. Winne was born on February 14, 1935 in St. Louis, Oklahoma where she lived until she was 10 years old with her parents and six brothers and sisters. As a young girl, her family moved to Olympia and then to Cloverdale where Winne graduated from Cloverdale High School as class Valedictorian in 1951. Winnie was awarded the title of Citrus Fair Queen and was crowned by the future Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Earl Warren.
Winnie received a full scholarship to the University of California at Berkeley, but chose to become a wife and mother instead. With the passing of her husband, Hank Salvoni, Winnie moved back to Olympia in 1967 to be close to her parents and to raise her children. In 1980, she went to work for the Washington State Medical Association where her co-workers were more like family than friends. She retired in 2000 to spend more time with her family and to do what she loved most: fishing, camping, and cooking.
Winnie’s greatest achievement was her family. She is survived by her daughters Vicki Kent, Pam (Randy) Wollen; grandchildren Montana, Taylor Elizabeth, Sterling, Brie (Paul), great-grandchild, Alice, and many nieces and nephews who all adored her. She is survived by brother, Tony (Marilyn) Sexton, sisters Kathy (Mike) Wood, and Susie (Andy) Miller. Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Lola Sexton, brother Manning Sexton, sisters Wanda Kinsey and Dee McPherson.
Winnie always retained a deep faith in God. At her request, there will be a private service. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the American Heart Association.
