The Wednesday Evening Healdsburg Certified Farmers’ Market announced the start of a new weekly wine tasting in the Wetzel Native Plant Garden adjacent to the market.
Each week up to three wineries will sample their varietals. There will be different wineries throughout the season, from Healdsburg and the surrounding area.
July 12 was the opening for the new market event. The fee is $15 for 6 tastes, with additional tastes for $2.
Run by the 501(c)3 non-profit Friends of the Healdsburg Farmers’ Market, this is a benefit to raise funds for the market, and to encourage people to attend the Wednesday Evening Market.
Unlike the Saturday Market, which has a loyal and steady following, the Wednesday Market has struggled; the goal is to keep it alive and thriving.
This year the Cerri lot is filled with vendors for the Wednesday Evening Market. Favorite farms like Bernier, Preston, Alexander Valley, Reyes, Middleton and Ridgeview, offer a range of produce. Heather’s Custom Meats, A4 Chicken, and Anna’s Seafood are also there. Stone Horse has dried beans and grains, as well as intriguing gourds. Unusual treats like kefirs, cheeses, chocolate, gourmet spices and interesting crafts add to the mix.
There are also prepared food vendors at each Wednesday Market. Tuck’s Indian and the Green Grocer serve up a variety of dishes, and Lola’s will be joining the market with tamales and other Mexican fare. Food can be purchased at a vendor’s booth and taken into the tasting area, to enjoy food and wine together.
As with the Saturday market, there is musical entertainment each week, just outside the tasting.
The Wetzel Native Plant Garden is in between the Cerri building parking lot and SHED, and the entrance to the tasting is from the lot. The hours of the market are 4–7 p.m., and the tasting closes at 6:30. No dogs are allowed.
