Jags 8-5 overall as they begin second-half push
One thing is certain following the Jaguar’s first trip around the newly formed North Bay League Oak Division—there are no gimmies on the schedule.
Windsor finished up the first round robin of league play with a pair of hard fought home and away matches against Maria Carrillo and Santa Rosa, gaining an even split. The result pushed the Jag’s league mark to 2-4 and 8-5 on the season.
The Lady Jags will be back on the NBL court when they host Montgomery on Oct. 9 (after press time), followed by a Thursday, Oct. 11 date with visiting Analy. The Jags will wrap up the home stand next Tuesday, Oct. 16 against Cardinal Newman. Match times beginning with the frosh are 4/5/6:30 p.m.
Jaguars turn back Pumas
Windsor began its latest stretch on Oct. 7 against visiting Maria Carrillo, getting off to a sluggish start in dropping game one, 22-25.
“We did everything we could do to make sure we would lose that (first) game with 20 errors,” Jags coach Rich Schwarz said. “Once we cleaned up our serving and hitting errors we started to take control of the match.”
Windsor found its stride to claim sets two and three (25-19, 25-20), but the Pumas clawed back to grab a hotly contested fourth set, 26-24. It was all Windsor in the fifth and deciding game, powering to a 15-9 victory for the match.
Senior outside hitter Elena Dyer led the offense with 16 kills and added two blocks. Other great efforts were had by middle hitter Brittany Johnson (11 kills, 5 blocks), libero Izzy Earl (28 digs) and setters Katie Todd (19 assists, 10 digs) and Hannah Dyer (18 assists, 11 digs).
Windsor traveled to unbeaten Santa Rosa two nights later, weathering a tough night to lose in straight sets; 25-20, 25-10, 25-19.
“This was our worst offensive night of the year as we ended up with only 14 kills as a team,” Schwarz said. “We had way too many hitting and passing errors to compete against such a high level team.”
