Flame-thrower – Junior softball pitcher Sydney Hage fired five innings of one-hit ball while fanning nine in a 15-1 rout over visiting San Rafael in a stellar spring debut.

Lady Jags collect 15 hits in five-inning win over San Rafael

The Lady Jaguars had their hitting shoes securely fastened in the 2018 varsity softball season opener against visiting San Rafael on Feb. 28, sending the Bulldogs packing in a 15-1 five-inning rout.
Windsor bats pounded out 15 hits against the overmatched Bulldogs, a stark contrast to last year’s meeting between teams.
“The game wasn’t all I hoped it would be since we had a close 1-0 win against them last year,” WHS coach Morgan Rasmason said. “I was looking for a game of similar caliber to help prepare us for league, but they had three players out with injuries and were just not at the level I had hoped for this year.”
The Jaguars (1-0) resumed pre-league action on March 5 (after press time) at Redwood and will visit San Marin this Thursday, March 8 (5 p.m.). Windsor returns home next Monday, May 12 for a clash with Sonoma (4 p.m.).
The Jags took the field in the Feb. 28 season opener under threatening skies, dodging intermittent rain throughout the game. The Bulldogs took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Windsor answered with eight runs in the bottom of the frame to bust it wide open. The Jaguars tacked on another seven insurance runs in their half of the second and pitcher Sydney Hage did the rest en route to a 15-1 rout in five innings.
“I think we played a solid game, I knew we’d have strong bats this year and we started to show that by scoring 15 runs in two innings,” Rasmason noted. “Our girls did their job of putting the ball in play hard, and forced San Rafael to make eight errors on defense.”
Hage was sharp in her season debut, yielding just one hit and one unearned run while walking two with nine strikeouts. Pacing the Windsor bat attack were Alyssa De Casas (3 for 4, 3 runs, 3 RBIs), Caitlyn Murphy (2 for 3, 2 runs, RBI), Kayla Scott (2 for 2, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Camille Kahnberg (2 for 3, 2 runs, RBI), Hage (2 for 4, RBI), Kasandra Jaramillo (1 for 2), Anis Acevedo (1 for 4, 2 runs, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Gracie Hernandez (1 for 2, 2 runs) and Averie Gehrett (1 for 3, 2 runs.
Scheduling notes
Windsor’s scheduled home game with Terra Linda on March 2 was rained out and rescheduled for March 19 at 4 p.m.
