Ed foundation scholarship applications open
EDITOR: The Windsor Educational Foundation (WE Foundation) is accepting applications for its annual scholarship program. WE Foundation scholarships are awarded to graduating Windsor High School seniors who are planning to attend college or trade school. The scholarships are need and merit based — students who have overcome obstacles and hardships during the course of their educational careers are encouraged to apply.
Last year 20 students were awarded scholarships in the amount of $1,000. The WE Foundation is looking forward to recognizing this year’s group of talented and motivated WHS students. The application period is currently open and will close on Feb. 28, 2018. Visit the WE Foundation website at WindsorWE.org to download the application. Application packets are also available at Mrs. Taddei’s office at Windsor High School.

Trump Twitter bias?
EDITOR: President Trump’s preferred mode of communication with the world seems to be through Twitter. This year, Americans have dealt with horrific tragedies touching nearly every part of the country. The slew of shootings and natural disasters have taken a great deal of lives and left thousands of families stripped of their effects. After each disaster, President Trump took to Twitter to extend his thoughts and well-wishes to citizens affected by these tragedies. But, I believe taking a closer look at the distribution of these tweets reveals a chilling bias and a discrepancy in his political morals.
Hurricane Harvey: 28 tweets. Hurricane Irma: 14 tweets. Las Vegas shooting: 11 tweets. Northern and Southern California fires combined: 2 tweets.
Looking at this information impels me to believe there’s a correlation between the political inclination of the state the tragedy occurred in and the amount of attention those affected receive on Twitter. Is President Trump deliberately showing more support to the citizens of states that support his political party? After experiencing the terror of the North Bay fires this October, and witnessing the same thing happen to Southern California currently, it’s hard not to speculate why the President is staying so quiet.

Tree cutting concerns
EDITOR: All significant trees on the east side of the railroad right of way are being cut down. This includes oaks that are 40 or more feet in height. Has this been approved by any government entity?

Jazz vocal ensemble
Popular local women’s jazz ensemble Vinyl Revival will be performing a concert of holiday favorites on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. at Windsor Community United Methodist Church, 9451 Brooks Road South. The event is a fundraiser to benefit UndocuFund for Fire Relief in Sonoma County, which is providing disaster-related assistance to some of our most vulnerable neighbors. There will be no admission cost for entrance to the concert, and no one will be turned away, but a freewill offering will be taken for the cause. The public is invited to join in an evening of holiday cheer and to support this worthy effort.
