Knights Pee Wees 27, Santa Rosa Stallions 7
The Stallions started fast driving 51 yards for a touchdown in 4
plays, culminating with a 37 yd. touchdown run up the middle on
their first possession.
The Knights rallied back on their first play from scrimmage with
a 65-yard pass completion from D.J. Mayo-Garl to Shane Morgan. The
extra point failed leaving the score at 7-6. Both defenses flexed
their muscles after that into the third quarter. Facing a 10-man
front, the Knights made some half-time adjustments that helped to
open some passing lanes. Early in the third quarter Mayo-Garl hit
Dominic Chavez for a 75-yard touchdown pass. With the Thomas Robles
extra point run it put Windsor in the lead 13-6.
On the next possession, Mayo-Garl went to the air for a 46-yard
touchdown to Dorado Toyfoya. With the Robles conversion run, the
Knights led 20-7. Windsor¹s Shane Morgan got his second
interception of the year and ran it to the Stallions 10-yard line.
The Knights scored again on a Mayo-Garl option pitch to Thomas
Robles for the 7-yard score, followed by a Robles conversion for a
final score of 27-7.
Team leaders included: Garl (7-8, 196 yards, 3 TDs passing, 6-29
yards rushing), Shane Morgan (TD reception, interception) and the
offensive line of Keegan Steele, Justin McCabe, Blayne Salazar, Joe
Moore, Hilberto Contreras, Colin Smith and Mike Molina.
The defense was led by interceptions by Morgan and Robles, and
great play by linebackers Joe Moore, Beau Thompson, Trevor Smith
and Robles. The D-line was anchored by Trenton Wells, Wes Calvert,
Phillip Kinney, Josh Duke and Blayne Salazar. The defensive
backfield was manned by Ishi Silva, Shane Morgan and Spencer
Morris. The Knights pressure up front led to two rushed kicks and a
blocked punt by Kameron Richardson.
³This win is one of my proudest moments as a coach, not because
a half dozen kids played great games, it¹s because as a team, all
27 players worked together and made plays,² said coach Paul
Calvert.
Next week, the 3-0 Pee Wee Knights face off with the 3-0 Golden
Bears.
