The summer Joe DiMaggio League baseball season officially got
under way last week as Windsor played its first four games in a
pair of weekend double-headers.
After a successful spring hardball season, junior varsity coach
Wayne Welch is back for another summer Joe D campaign, leading a
talented squad made up of both returning varsity and JV
players.
The Jags (2-2) opened the summer circuit with a double dip
against San Rafael. Windsor hurler Jake Spiegle got the win in the
opener, yielding just two runs on three hits in six and two-thirds
innings pitched before John Reed came in for the save in a 5-2 Jags
victory. Pacing the Jags¹ hitting attack were: Reed (2 for 4, RBI),
Eric Griffin (1 for 4, 2 RBIs), Speigle (1 for 3, run), Brad
Merrell (1 for 2, run) and Matt Fortney (1 for 2, run).
Southpaw Kyle Thomas climbed the hill for Windsor in the
nightcap, as San Rafael tallied three runs in the first and four
more in the sixth to post a 7-1 Bulldogs¹ victory. Leading Windsor
hitters included: Reed (1 for 3, run), Griffin (1 for 3), Kyle
Torquemada (2 for 3), Thomas (1 for 4), John Tuscher (1 for 4) and
Merrell (1 for 3).
On Sunday the Jags took on the Irish from Sacred Heart High
School, gaining another split. John Pierce toed the slab for the
locals in game one, allowing three runs on three hits with five
walks and seven strikeouts in a 3-2 Irish victory. Swinging hot
bats for the Jags were: Reed (1 for 4, run), Torquemada (1 for 3),
Thomas (1 for 3, RBI, run), Austin Welch (RBI), Spiegle (1 for 3,
RBI) and Pierce (1 for 3).
Kyle Torquemada got the start in game two against the Irish,
tossing six strong innings, yielding just a pair of runs on four
hits, while fanning five in a 7-2 Windsor victory. Leading the
Windsor lumber company were: Reed (1 for 3, run), Torquemada (3 for
3, 2 runs), Tom Walton (1 for 3, RBI), run), Thomas (1 for 3, RBI,
run), Austin Welch (1 for 3, RBI, run) and Tuscher (1 for 3, 2B, 3
RBIs).
The Jags continue their busy summer schedule on Saturday with a
twin bill in San Francisco, followed by another double dip on
Sunday in Willits.
