After winning the District-35 Championship, the Junior all-star
team from Windsor was eliminated in the Sectional Tournament.
The Windsor squad, comprised of the top 13 and 14 year-olds from
the Little League Junior division, was knocked out after falling to
Albany 13-3. The team was coming off a disappointing loss to San
Francisco two days earlier, and struggled in the following
game.
Albany built an early lead that proved too much to overcome, as
they posted a ten-run win. Windsor mounted scoring threats in all
innings but could manage just three runs, leaving men on base to
end each inning.
Despite going out with two tough losses, the team accomplished
what only three other Windsor teams have in the long history of
Windsor Little League ‹ win a District-35 championship.
Windsor swept through its first two tournaments, excelling in
all areas and winning every game played to bring home the
District-35 championship banner.
Throughout the all-star tournament the team showed why they are
considered one of the most talented groups of baseball players to
come through Windsor Little League.
³We could put any nine of these kids out and field a very good
team,² said Manager Randy Lyman. ³The pitching staff continued to
come up big in difficult situations.
Coach Alan Alton agreed saying, ³baseball starts with good
pitching and it was no different with this team.²
Windsor¹s all-star pitching staff included: Cameron Southward,
Dylan Ghadiri, Craig Lyman, Marcus Begley, Ethan Warren and Michael
Campbell.
Clutch hitting was another strength of the team. Windsor
consistently got two-out hits to drive in runs, including a two
out, two strikes, three-run homer by Jacob Welch in the first game
to secure the win. In a tough come-from-behind win against a good
Sebastopol team, Windsor had a seven-run inning.
Craig Lyman and DJ King, both of whom were able to connect on
three run home runs, led the comeback.
In the first game of the District tournament Michael Hutchison
started Windsor off with a lead-off home run, en route to an 18-7
victory over the Lake County Championship team from Westshore
Little League.
Dylan Ghadiri was able to connect on three home runs, including
two in the District Championship against Petaluma American.
Although there were numerous hitters who did well, two deserve
recognition; Steven Hutchison and Jacob Welch finished with batting
averages of .615 and .583 respectively.
³Windsor High is going to be getting a very talented and
committed group of kids for their baseball program,² said Lyman.
³Hopefully this is just a taste of what we can expect from this
group in high school. It was truly a pleasure to coach this group
of kids.²
