The Lady Jaguars made the most of a long holiday break on Dec. 29, turning in an outstanding collective performance at the annual Queen of the Mat Wrestling Tournament in Pittsburg.
The Dec. 29 tourney included hundreds of high school athletes on 32 competing teams, with Windsor finishing an outstanding fourth overall as a team. Â
Leading the charge was 111-pound junior Ivory Osborn, who began with a first round win by forfeit and advanced with another pair of wins before meeting teammate Dulse Chavez for the tourney championship. In one of the better battles between teammates, Osborn pulled out a 6-2 decision for the title. Chavez, who had a great tournament, recorded three straight wins by fall before settling for second place. Â
“Both girls wrestled tough and it was a pleasure to watch them represent Team Windsor in the finals,” WHS coach Richard Dixon said.
Also taking home a first-place medal was Savannah Burger, who recorded three straight pins, including a 33-second win by fall in the finals to capture her first tournament title.Â
Garnering second-place medals were 101-pound Molly Cox, who advanced to the finals with three straight pins before losing by fall in the finals and 106-pound freshman Carmen Perez, who continued her emergence with a win by forfeit followed by a pair of pins before losing to state qualifier Brooklyn Shattuck of Petaluma in the finals.
Also competing well for the Jaguars was 134-pound Maxine De Mars, who recorded a win by forfeit, lost in the quarterfinals but won by injury default to advance to the Consolation semifinals. There she lost to her Deer Valley opponent by fall.Â
