The Kiwanis Club of Windsor has expanded their Windsor Day
Parade proposal to include a new festival on the Town Green.
“The idea is to frame the Town Green with events that will be
objects of interest to everyone involved in the parade,” said Past
President Richard Fuller.
The Kiwanis Club of Windsor has been the traditional sponsor of
the Windsor Day Parade but several groups have tried to organize
post-parade activities with little success.
According to Fuller, the plan for the festival would be to
occupy Market Street between McClellend Drive and Old Redwood
Highway with food, arts, crafts, a book fair next to the library,
use of the Town’s mobile recreation van, a tethered hot air balloon
and car show.
“We’re trying to frame the entire Town Green with things in and
around the area that would hold people there and attract various
interests.”
He said the group will move the Parade judging station to the
intersection of McClellend Drive and Market Street and that the
judging platform can be converted into a stage for music as soon as
the parade concludes. Fuller said he hoped the proximity of the
stage and festivities to people already attending the parade would
entice more visitors to stick around.
Councilwoman Debora Fudge reiterated her longstanding desire for
the parade to be moved away from Mother’s Day weekend but praised
the Kiwanis Club for its dedication to the parade. “Thank you for
putting all the time into it,” she said.
