For the first time in years there will be no postseason soccer for Windsor High School soccer teams, as both the varsity boys and girls fell just short of North Coast Section playoff consideration.
The teams wrapped up their respective North Bay League schedules with mixed results, with the boys notching wins over Maria Carrillo (4-0) and Ukiah (2-0), while the girls fell to Maria Carrillo (3-1) and Ukiah (4-2).
The Lady Jaguars (7-11-2, 4-10) finished an injury-plagued campaign wondering “what if?” about a year that began with promise but ended with several key players watching from the sideline.
Windsor began the final stretch on Feb. 6 against visiting Carrillo, clawing back from a 1-0 halftime deficit with a second half goal from freshman Isabella Chavez to knot the contest at 1-1. The game remained deadlocked until three minutes left in regulation when the Pumas scored a pair of goals in quick succession to pull out a 3-1 victory.
The Lady Jags got a first-half goal from Olivia Sievers two nights later against visiting Ukiah for a 1-1 tie at the half. Windsor took a brief 2-1 lead when Carmi Dotario found the net on an assist from Chavez, but the Wildcats would finish the game with three unanswered goals to post a 4-2 win.
Before the match, Windsor honored graduating seniors Briana Davis, Madi Baer, Katie Bianchi, Gillian Day, Sophie Vega and Sievers.
Boys notch wins
The Jaguars finished up NBL play on a high note, posting shutout wins over Maria Carrillo and Ukiah to finish the year at 5-8-1 in league and 7-10-2 overall.
