Jags win a pair Â
Windsor took the field with determination and focus in the Oct. 25 meeting with visiting Cardinal Newman, recognizing seniors Maria Olivera, Emily Williman, Bethany Amador, Maddie Call and Kimberly Rosas in a pre-game ceremony.
Both teams stepped up their intensity, digging in on defense to forge a scoreless deadlock at the half.
Windsor took the first lead of the match early in the second period, as Taylor Brogden headed in a cross pass from Madi Baer for a 1-0 edge. Newman quickly scored off a corner kick to knot the contest at 1-1, but the Jaguars would pull it out with 15 minutes left when Alyna Gonzalez took a pass from Baer and drove it home for an eventual 2-1 win.
Windsor needed another victory to extend their season on Oct. 27 at Rancho Cotate and got exactly that jumping out with a pair of first-half goals from leading scorer Katie Bianchi (assist from Baer) for a 2-0 cushion at the break. The Jags sealed the deal with another pair of insurance goals from Baer and Amber Balogh after intermission en route to a 4-0 win.
Credit Baer (2) and Bianchi with assists for the Jaguars, while goalie Briana Davis pitched the shutout.
