Lady Jags represent No. 9 seed in playoff tourney
The Lady Jaguars were rewarded for an outstanding league softball campaign at Saturday’s North Coast Section seeding meeting, landing the No. 9 seed in the Division 2 playoff tournament.
At the time of this writing, Windsor (12-9) was in final preparation for a Wednesday, May 15 visit to No. 8 Bishop O’Dowd (16-4) of Oakland in the NCS opener. Should the Jags advance, they will likely travel to take on No. 1 seeded Rancho Cotate in a quarterfinal clash in Rohnert Park (date and time TBA).
The No. 9 seed was a welcome result for the Jaguars, making their first NCS playoff appearance in two years.
“We got a higher seed than I expected and almost a home game, which is awesome,” WHS coach Morgan Rasmason said. “I’m hoping we show up ready to go and get a game two.”
The ladies made an all too brief appearance in the four-team North Bay League playoff tourney last week as the No. 2 seed, hosting No.3 Analy in a first-round match-up on May 7.
Windsor pitcher Kayla Scott threw well enough to win, but a couple of key fielding errors would see the Jags’ fate in an eventual 5-2 Analy win.
“The game against Analy was not what I wanted it to be,” Rasmason noted. “They pretty much only had infield hits that we just didn’t make plays on, or had mental/physical errors. It was a big disappointment, especially after how well we played against them the week before.”
Pacing the 12-hit Windsor attack were Moana Bullock (2 for 4, RBI), Gracie Hernandez (2 for 4, RBI), Kelly Tagnolli (2 for 4), Adriana Novak (2 for 4), Jennifer Doherty (1 for 1), Averie Gehrett (1 for 4), Anis Acevedo (1 for 4) and Kasandra Jaramillo (1 for 3).
JV Call-ups
The Lady Jags have brought up three talented freshmen from the JV squad to bolster their playoff roster, including Jennifer Doherty, Adriana Novak and Nalani Silva.
