Lady Jags fall short of postseason; finish at 9-12
The Lady Jaguars will have to wait another year for a shot at the postseason, coming up just short in the final week of North Bay League play with a pair of losses.
Windsor (9-12, 5-9) began the final stretch with an 8-4 loss at Montgomery on May 8 and finished the season two days later with a 5-3 home loss to Casa Grande.
“This year didn’t go quite as planned, however we did start to bounce back,” Jags coach Morgan Rasmason said. “I don’t think we’ll make NCS because we’re less than .500, but I’m applying anyway because I scheduled us a tough preseason to get us a higher ranking.”
The Lady Jaguars held a 4-2 lead after four innings in the May 8 visit to Montgomery, but the Vikings rallied for six runs in the fateful fifth to power them to an eventual 8-4 victory.
The team paid tribute to graduating seniors Alyssa De Casas, Camille Kahnberg and Natalia Baca before taking the field against Casa Grande on May 10, spotting the Gauchos a 5-1 lead before staging a seventh inning rally.
With two runs in and two on, the Jags’ rally fell short when Averie Gehrett’s smash to left-center was caught on a diving grab to preserve a 5-3 Gaucho win. Freshman pitcher Savanna Cordova tossed the first two innings before giving way to Kayla Scott, who closed it out in a strong outing.
“Kayla threw a great game,” Rasmason noted. “It was a pretty evenly played game, we just didn’t capitalize on our opportunities like they did.”
