It was a mixed result on the high school hardball and softball diamonds for Windsor High School teams, with the varsity baseballers scoring a dramatic 6-5 walk-off victory over Ukiah, while the Lady Jaguars were blanked by the Wildcats, 10-0.
At the start of play this week, the Jaguars were at the halfway mark of the North Bay League baseball season with an NBL mark of 2-5 and 8-7 overall, with scheduled games at Santa Rosa (April 25, after press time), followed by home dates against Cardinal Newman (Wednesday, April 27) and Maria Carrillo (Friday, April 29). All games start at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile the Lady Jags were 3-5 in league and 6-10 on the year, with upcoming home games against Cardinal Newman (April 26), Maria Carrillo (April 28, 4 p.m.), and at Rancho Cotate (May 3, 4 p.m.). Â
Jags walk off over Ukiah
The April 20 clash with visiting Ukiah featured an unassuming start and wild finish, as veteran pitcher Sam Penning was cruising with a 2-1 edge after six. The floodgates opened in the seventh, as the Wildcats struck for four runs to grab a brief 5-2 lead. Â
Not a problem, as Windsor pushed across four runs in the bottom of the frame, including the tying and winning runs on a clutch, two out, two run single off the bat of Toli Partida for a 6-5 win.
Reliever Travis Broadhead (.1 IP, 1 hit, 0 runs) earned the win, while Penning (6.2 IP, 6 hits, 1 ER, 3 Ks) got a no-decision. Top hitters for the Jags were Penning (1 for 2, 2 RBIs), Partida (1 for 3, 2 RBIs), Joey Pignataro (1 for 4, 2 RBIs) and Hunter Disidoro (1 for 3, 2 runs). Â
Ladies blanked
The Lady Jaguars suffered a different fate in their April 19 meeting with visiting Ukiah, managing just two hits on the afternoon en route to a five-inning, 10-0 loss.
Starting pitcher Caitlyn Murphy (2.1 IP, 6 hits, 4 ERs, 3 Ks) took the loss, while Kayla Scott (2.2 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs) closed it out in mop-up duty. Hitting safely for Windsor were Shay Mendoza (1 for 2) and Ashlynn Wells (1 for 2).
