Defending NBL champs add JV names
The Windsor High School boys basketball team will have a tough act to follow this winter, following one of the best seasons in school history.
The Jaguars lost most of their 25-4 North Bay League championship team to graduation in June, but all is not lost as they return a strong nucleus of four players ready to carry the torch this season.
“We will be very young after graduating 10 seniors and all five starters, but the team will have good size and a talented front line,” head coach Travis Taylor reported. “This team has a long way to go, but we have a very high ceiling if everything can come together.”
Windsor’s list of varsity returnees starts with 6’ 7” junior big man Riley Smith, a talented inside scorer and rebounder. He’ll be joined by returning senior guards Brandon Mallie and Ethan Wright and forward Brock Tolson.
“Riley and Brandon have the most varsity experience and both will be relied on as team leaders,” Taylor noted.
Although the varsity roster has not been finalized, the team will be bolstered by a tall group of first year players moving up from the JV squad, including 6’ 6” junior forward Justin Smith and 6’ 5” junior forward Travis Carlozzi. Rounding out the roster are senior guard Kobe Roman, junior guards Uly Vielma, Josh Brown and Kyle Bozzetto and junior forward AJ Whaley.
Assisting Taylor will be coaches Steve Kramer, Mike Farmer and Gabe Jenkins. The team manager is Tyler Schuster.
Although the team will be working hard to establish an identity, Taylor envisions this year’s squad as one that has both talent and promise.
“Our goals are to reach our full potential and become a selfless team,” he said. “The scoreboard will take care of itself.”
