It’s official: Healdsburg’s future SMART train station will be located at our historic (but long unused) train depot on Hudson Street, located a couple blocks west of the Russian River, near the Fogbelt brewpub. The Healdsburg City Council decided as much at their meeting last week. The other potential spot where officials were considering putting our local SMART train stop was more centrally located on Vine Street in the downtown area, a quick walk from the plaza and City Hall. But in the end, they opted for the old Hudson station — largely due to all its existing infrastructure, permits, etc., which should save time and money. “The City Council heard from numerous members of the community and weighed the pros and cons of two options for location of the future SMART rail station in Healdsburg,” city officials write on Facebook. “After a thorough discussion, the Council opted to confirm past decisions to locate the station at the historic depot site on Hudson Street. The City is encouraged by a number of recent grant awards that bring us closer than ever to a fully funded extension of the SMART system to Healdsburg. We are excited to continue our partnership with SMART and we can’t wait to welcome them to town as soon as possible.” Keeping in mind, of course, that we’re still quite a few years — and quite a few millions — from that reality. Oh and BTW, there will be a big story on Healdsburg’s future train station in this week’s edition of the Tribune, on stands and in mailboxes Thursday morning. ✨ (Source: City of Healdsburg & City of Healdsburg via Facebook)
