Analy teams named CIF Distinguished Scholastic award winners
The winter season was an impressive one for Analy and El Molino wrestlers, and that success was validated this month with the announcement of team and California Interscholastic Federation awards.
The Analy wrestling team, which qualified four athletes to the North Coast Section meet including eventual state qualifiers Trevor Bagan and brother Preston Bagan, was awarded as a CIF Distinguished Scholastic Team honoree for the 2017-18 season with a cumulative grade point average of 3.02. Â
In fact, all of Analy’s five varsity teams for the winter season were CIF Distinguished Scholastic Teams (cumulative 3.0 GPA or better). Also receiving the award were Analy girls basketball (3.40 GPA), Analy boys soccer (3.35 GPA), Analy boys basketball (3.29 GPA) and Analy girls soccer (3.24 GPA).
In addition, veteran Analy wrestling coach Ryan Stevens was recently named the National Federation of High Schools 2016-17 California Coach of the Year for boys wrestling.Â
Stevens, who has struggled with serious health issues for the past few years, was nominated by the California Interscholastic Federation as the most deserving recipient of this honor.
In addition, both Analy and El Molino wrestling teams recognized their athletes at respective team banquets.
For the Lions, who qualified a total of five wrestlers to the boy’s and girl’s NCS meets under coach Ron Wright, Most Valuable Wrestler went to senior Angel Aguilar, while freshman Erik Dimond was named Most Improved Wrestler. The Heart of the Lion award went to freshman Hannah Ricioli.
The Analy team wrestling team, led by James and Jimmy Stevens, named brothers Trevor Bagan and Preston Bagan as the co-Most Valuable Wrestlers.   Zach Fogg was named the Tiger’s Most Improved Wrestler, while the Coaches’ Award went to Jimmy Carreras. Â
