Editor: Ay, Caramba! Did anyone notice that there was eating
(tamales), singing (Christmas songs in Spanish), and loud laughter
in our Healdsburg library last Saturday?
Who could be behind all this festive activity in our oh-so quiet
place? Believe it or not, two librarians created the wonderful,
bilingual ruckus. BRAVO! Many thanks and muchas gracias to Becky
Goodsell and Bo Simons for all the time, energy, and temerity to
bring a reader’s theater production of “Too Many Tamales/ Que
Monton de Tamales” to our little town as well as to Windsor and
Santa Rosa.
This happy, holiday performance came about because Becky and Bo
are librarians who know much, much more than where to find which
books on what shelf. I think the same can be said about all the
wonderful people who work in the Healdsburg library. Bo Simons,
Debbie Hand, Rachel Icaza, Patty Lewis, Lindy Gardetto, Denise Van
Gerpen, and Cynthia Gallagher are all so dear to our hearts! The
Healdsburg library is not simply a place to find books and
information, it is also a gathering place of friends and community.
All the smart, patient, kind people who work at our library have
made it a happy, vital center where people share books and ideas
but also good cheer and concern for each other.
The Healdsburg library is a warm haven and such a joy for so
many of us. So, when the doors are shut for a long, sad time during
this Christmas holiday, we will all miss much more than our
books.
