The eighth annual Heirloom Expo took place at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds on Sept. 11, 12 and 13. Local youth and school gardens were on display, along with heritage poultry, Navajo-Churro sheep, a dahlia show and a fruits and vegetables of every conceivable variety.
Visiting children of all ages could play in one of two carefully constructed squash labyrinths, sample varieties of tomatoes and watermelons and learn about the art of fruit carving.
The old time fiddle festival, sidewalk chalk artists and the imposing squash tower delighted visitors, and Reuben Frias took home the largest pumpkin prize with his 1,491-pound whopper. Vendors were on hand selling everything from seeds and compost, to prepared foods and pots.
