The dog park next to the Villa Chanticleer on Fitch Mountain will be closed for at least the next few months, while city crews carry out a “comprehensive renovation project” to fix up the park, local officials announced this week. So that local dog owners have somewhere to go in the meantime, a makeshift dog area opens today at Badger Park on the other side of the mountain. Here’s some more info from the city: “Key features of the renovation project include ADA upgrades, new walkways and shade structure, replacing the dog water stations, and installing site amenities like benches and picnic tables. … We anticipate the Villa Dog Park renovation work to take approximately three months to complete, so keep an eye out for a grand reopening in May.” This work is part of a larger makeover the city is giving to the trails and other public spaces on Fitch Mountain. After months of delays — thanks to difficult weather and “non-native soils” found near the trailhead — city officials say the trails themselves should re-open sometime this month. I’ll keep you posted on that front!
