Veterans from all branches of the service and all conflicts are invited to a special breakfast honoring their service on Veterans Day.
The Rotary Club of Healdsburg Sunrise and the Sotoyome Post 111 of the American Legion are co-hosting the event on Friday, Nov. 11 at the Annex of the Villa Chanticleer in Healdsburg. The meeting will commence sharply at 8am and be finished by 9 so veterans may attend the ceremony in the Plaza as part of the day.
Veterans Day was originally observed as Armistice Day in 1919 by proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson. It was to honor those American soldiers, as well as soldiers from other countries, who had perished in World War I.
It has traditionally been held on the 11th day of the 11th month, which was the day that the armistice ending World War I was signed by Germany and World War I was officially over. The name Armistice Day was changed in 1954 to Veterans Day at the same time it was declared a national holiday.
The Rotary Club of Healdsburg Sunrise considers it a privilege to honor veterans for their service to this country. A hearty breakfast will be served, followed by an MIA presentation and a presentation by Dennis Stead, USMC, Vietnam veteran.
There is no charge for the breakfast. It is an opportunity to connect with other veterans and share one’s love for the United States of America. It is hoped that all veterans in the North County, as well as from anywhere else, will be able to attend. Family and caregivers are also welcome.
