The varsity baseball Eagles snapped a five-game losing skid on April 29, riding the hot hand of pitcher Greg Scaramella in a 5-0 shutout over visiting Lower Lake.
The win, coupled with a 13-1 loss to Middletown on Friday, pushed Cloverdale’s record to 2-8 in league and 2-13 overall.
The Eagles will be back in action this week with scheduled road games at Fort Bragg (May 6, after press time), followed by a trip to St. Helena this Friday, May 9.  Cloverdale will visit Clear Lake next Tuesday, May 13. First pitch for all games is 4 p.m.
Scaramella was in complete control in the Apr. 29 clash with Lower Lake, keeping hitters off balance with an assortment of effective pitchers in a sparkling, nine-strikeout performance.  Hitting safely for the Eagles were Jonathan Alvarez (1 for 4), Scaramella (1 for 2), Sam Swan (1 for 2), and Josh Holden (1 for 4).
Cloverdale ran into a hot-hitting Middletown squad in Friday’s home meeting, as the Mustangs scored early and often en route to a 13-1 win. Starting pitcher Logan Tate took the loss, while top hitters included Jonathan Sanchez (1 for 2), Holden (1 for 2) and Swan (1 for 2).       
JV Eagles notch wins
The Cloverdale JV squad continued its winning ways last week with wins over Lower Lake (15-5) and Middletown (2-1). The victories pushed the Eagle’s first-place league record to 9-1 and an outstanding 15-1 on the season.
Cloverdale sent pitcher Michael McDermott (2 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 5 Ks) to the hill in the Apr. 29 meeting with Lower Lake, tossing the first two innings before handing the ball to relievers Travis Kitowski (1.2 IP, 1 hit, 4 runs, 3 BB, 3 Ks) and Jared Hibbeln (1.1 IP, 0 hits, 1 run, 2 BB, 2 Ks) in a 15-5 romp.
Pacing the hitting corps were Mason Kostoff (1 for 2, 2B, 2 RBIs), Cole Stroh (1 for 2, 2B, 2 RBIs), Angel Vega (1 for 2, 2B, 1 RBI), McDermott (2 for 3, 2B), Kitowski (1 for 3, 1 RBI), Pat Ojeda (1 for 2, 2 RBIs), Chris Harms (1 for 3, 2 RBIs), and Mason Meier (2 for 3, 2 RBIs).
Chris Harms got the start on Friday against Middletown, going the distance in a terrific two-hit, seven-strikeout effort to key a 2-1 victory. Leading hitters were Vega (1 for 3), McDermott (2 for 3, 2B, 1 RBI), Meier (2 for 3), and Hibbeln (1 for 3, 1 RBI).
