The U-16 Windsor Wildcats¹ softball team had their hopes of an
undefeated Mark West League season dashed last week, as they fell
to Rohnert Park, 4-1, in the playoff title game.
The ŒCats, who also play together on the summer tournament
circuit, took a perfect, 11-0 record into Wednesday¹s title clash.
Windsor was the top-seeded team in the playoffs, drawing a bye in
the first round before defeating Healdsburg, 4-3, to advance to the
championship game.
³For the second straight year we¹ve gone undefeated in the Mark
West League and lost in the championship playoff game,² said
Windsor coach Rob Kulczewski, assisted by Scott Anderton. ³Overall,
it was a good experience for the team, and much more fun for the
girls to face live pitching than practice two or three days a
week.²
On Tuesday, the Wildcats were down 3-1 in the sixth inning
against Healdsburg before erupting for three runs to post a 4-3
win. Pitcher Jenny Anderton went the distance to notch the
victory.
³The win over Healdsburg was typical of what we¹ve done this
summer,² noted Kulczewski. ³We¹ve been down by four or five runs a
bunch of times during the league season, but this team always seems
to come back.²
Windsor hurler Aimee Nealon pitched her team into the sixth
inning in the title game on Wednesday tied 1-1, but Rohnert Park
rallied for three runs in the frame to pull out a 4-1 victory.
It was a game of missed opportunities for Windsor, who left the
bases loaded three times and stranded a total of 15 base
runners.
The U-16 ŒCats resume summer softball action this weekend with a
tournament in Rohnert Park.
