The U-14 Windsor Wildcats¹ softball team has brought home its
share of hardware this summer, having posted a pair of
championships, and losing a total of just five games in their six
tournaments played in the past two months.
That trend continued last weekend, as the ŒCats won four of five
games to take home a second-place trophy at the Dixon-Davis
tournament. Windsor posted wins over Rohnert Park, the Tahoe Fire
and a pair of victories over the Napa Express, before falling to
the Petaluma White, 3-1, in the title game. It was the third time
that the teams have squared off for a tournament championship this
summer.
³We played pretty well and didn¹t allow a run in our first three
games on Saturday, but we couldn¹t come up with the hits we needed
to win on Sunday,² said Wildcat¹s coach Dennis Lucchesi. ³I think
Petaluma just wanted it more than we did.²
Windsor hurler Lacey Land climbed the hill for the locals in
Saturday¹s tourney opener against Rohnert Park, tossing four
innings of one-hit ball while fanning three to post a
game-shortened, 10-0 victory. Swinging hot bats for the Wildcats
were: Kayla Lowe (3 for 3, 2B), Megan Hunt (1 for 2) and Katie
Delucchi (1 for 3).
Courtney Lucchesi dominated the Tahoe Fire in game two, as she
fired five innings, yielded just one hit and struck out eight in
the 7-0 win. Top hitters for the ŒCats were: Lowe (1 for 1, 2B,
Chrissy Pierce (1 for 1) and Lucchesi (1 for 1).
Windsor completed a perfect day with a 6-0 win over the Napa
Express. Land allowed only two hits in five innings and fanned six
to notch the victory. Leading hitters included: Nellie Praetzel (2
for 2), Seraphie Allen (1 for 2) and Paige Williams (1 for 1).
The ŒCats continued their winning ways on Sunday, edging the
Napa Express in a rematch, 2-1. Lucchesi tossed six innings of
five-hit ball and fanned three to get the win. Top hitters were:
Lowe (2 for 3) and Praetzel (2 for 3).
The win set up a clash with the familiar Petaluma White squad on
Sunday afternoon. This time around, the Windsor bats went quiet,
managing just four hits in a 3-1 loss.
Land pitched well enough to win for the ŒCats, tossing seven
innings, yielding five hits while fanning eight. Kayla Tyler and
Land led the offensive attack, with one hit in four trips.
