The Cloverdale Eagles Track and Field season recently concluded. The regular season meets have all been non-scoring, but if they had been scored, the girls’ team would be undefeated as Shaylee Stotts has won every 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter in each event.
The 4 x 100 relay team also won at each meet. Anabelle Doyle won the 800 meters in three meets. Katie Edwards won in the 1600 meters and 3200 meters. Angela Romero won in the 1600 and 3200 meters. Angel Bernardi has won the triple jum twice and Viviana Martinez won the long jump.
The 4 x 100 meters relay team of Perla Anguiano (100m, 200m), Angel Bernardi (100m, 400m), Viviana Martinez (100m,200 m, long jump) and Shaylee Stotts (100m, 200m, 400m), have not lost in league and they placed seventh in a prestigious Montgomery Viking Invitational which included 21 teams from predominantly large schools and several private schools from San Francisco. Shaylee Stotts has the fastest time in the Redwood Empire (all schools) in the 400 meter run.
“The ladies have a balanced team with Marty Beard and Lupita Gonzalez as hurdlers; Haleigh Alhborn, Maria Gonzalez and Shalynn Mancini throwing shot and discus; Hannah Faso running both 1600m and 3200m and speedsters Dora Soto, Catalina Gonzalez and Claudia Gonzalez,” commented coach Clint Kemp.
The Varsity Boys’ team is comprised of Cole MacDonald, Call Westfall, Jose Ruiz, Christain Aceveda and Jeffery Rivera. “The boys’ JV team is one of the strongest in the league with its 4x100m relay team of Adrian Bernardi (100m, 200m, long jump), Kevin Ontiveros (200m, 400m), Nick Rilea (88m, 1600m) and Manuel Rojas (200m) are league favorites. A supporting cast of Kevin Scalabrini, Jacob Perlenfein, Nick Marone, Nick Schneider, Mark Mora and Martin Ruiz look very promising for next year’s varsity team,” according to coaches Kemp and Jim Underhill.
All the teams will compete at the Coastal Mountain Conference Championship Meet in St. Helena on Saturday, May 17.
