Analy ends inaugural NBL season with 11-13-1 record
The 2019 softball campaign proved a successful one for the Analy Tigers, wrapping up play with a 3-1 loss to No. 2 seeded Moreau Catholic in the quarterfinals of the North Coast Section Division 3 playoffs.
The loss gave Analy a final season record of 11-13-1.
The Tigers represented the No. 10 seed in the 15-team Division 3 tournament, opening the playoffs with a 9-0 win over No. 7 Acalanes on May 14.
Senior pitcher Carson Rasmussen (7 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 6 Ks) enjoyed her best outing of the season, firing a complete-game two-hitter, allowing no runs while fanning six to earn the victory. Top hitters included Chloe Hadrich (3 for 5, run, RBI), Leah Lawrence (3 for 4, run, 2 RBIs), Rasmussen (2 for 2, 2B, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Samantha Caughie (2 for 4, run), Caitlin Caughie (1 for 3), Makayla Kraemer (1 for 5, 2 runs) and Olivia Franceschi (1 for 3, run).
The win set up a May 20 NCS quarterfinal visit to Moreau Catholic in Hayward, as Rasmussen (6 IP, 7 hits, 2 ERs, K) locked horns with Mariner’s ace Reesah Baker (7 IP, 7 hits, 1 ER, 3 Ks) in a great pitchers’ duel. The Tigers scratched for a solo run in the second inning, but the Mariners plated runs in the first, second and sixth frames, holding off a couple of Analy threats to hang on for a 3-1 victory.
Pacing the Tigers’ seven-hit attack were Leah Lawrence (2 for 2, 3B, run), Kraemer (2 for 4), Cameron Cordoza (2 for 4), Samantha Caughie (1 for 3) and Caitlin Caughie (1 for 3).Â
The game was the swan song for four-year varsity veterans Rasmussen, Samantha Caughie and Kraemer, some of the top players in the program’s history.
