Both teams travel next Friday, Sept. 9
Week two of the high school football season featured vastly different outcomes for Analy and El Molino high school teams on Sept. 2, as the Tigers won a shootout over visiting Rancho Cotate, while the Lions were on the short end of a 40-13 road loss to Fort Bragg.
Both teams will hit the road this Friday, Sept. 9 when the Tigers travel to face perennial power Cardinal Newman (7 p.m.), while the Lions visit Orestimba in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Tigers in a donnybrook
Friday’s home clash with visiting Rancho Cotate was a  much-anticipated rematch of last year’s NCS semi-finals, and the game lived up to all advanced billing.  On a night that defense took a holiday, the teams combined for 16 touchdowns and 1,243 of total offense.
Analy’s Jack Newman continued his assault on the school record books with another stellar performance, throwing for 434 yards and six passing touchdowns. Rancho QB Jake Simmons (younger brother of Analy receiver Ross Simmons) was just as good, amassing 507 yards through the air with six scores.
Rancho served notice on their first offensive possession, as Simmons fired a 42-yard touchdown pass to put the Cougars up 7-0. The Tigers quickly answered when Osiris Zamora busted loose on a 55-yard scoring run to knot the game at 7-7. Moments later, Newman found receiver Anthony Ponzo on a 23-yard pass and Analy led 14-7 at the end of one.
The Cougars served notice of things to come early in the second when Simmons capped a march with another 10-yard scoring pass, but the Tigers quickly returned the favor when Zamora took a swing pass from Newman and raced 64 yards to the house to keep Analy up 21-13.  The teams continued the onslaught by exchanging touchdowns, Analy’s coming on another 6 yard pass to Zamora to give the Tigers a 28-21 lead at the break.
There was no let-up on offense for either team in the third, as Analy started the half with an 85-yard kickoff return by Ponzo. Rancho scored twice, but the Tigers got a pair of scoring passes from Newman to Spencer Vogel (37 yards) and Eric Bendyk (83 yards) for a 49-33 edge heading into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers began the final period with drive leading to a 7 yard strike from Newman to Vogel and answered another Rancho score with a 68-yard run by Zamora. The Cougars ended the madness late in the fourth with a 21-yard touchdown pass as the Tigers hung on for a 63-46 win.
Newman finished up a stellar night completing 22 of 28 passes for 434 yards and six scores. Other offensive standouts included; Zamora (13-161 yards rushing, 2 TDs, 6-83 yards receiving, 2 TDs), Bendyk (4-147 yards receiving, TD), Vogel (6-92 yards receiving, 2 TDs), Ponzo (2-78 yards receiving, 2 TDs), Todd Noonan (3 -25 yards receiving), Kyle Johnson (1-9 yards receiving) and Cristian Fajardo (3-14 yards rushing).

Lions fall to T-Wolves
El Molino traveled to take on defending NCL-1 champion Fort Bragg on Friday, spotting the T-Wolves an early lead.  The Lions got on the board in the second quarter on a rushing touchdown by quarterback Avery Ransome, but Fort Bragg led 20-7 at the half.
The hosts busted the game wide open in the third quarter, putting 20 more points on the board. Ransome finished off another Lions drive with a touchdown, but the T-Wolves would power to a 40-13 win.
“We had a poor week of practice and a poor game performance,” El Mo head coach Randy Parmeter reported. “We had a hard time containing their quarterback (Lucas Triplett) and at 5’ 10” and 250 pounds, their running back (Tristen Strickland) was more than our guys could handle.”
Triplett passed for 258 yards, adding 118 yards rushing, while Strickland ran for 111 yards and 5 touchdowns. There were no El Molino stats available.
