SEBASTOPOL – The first of two scheduled “Apple” games between west county rivals Analy and El Molino on April 17 was for baseball purists –an old fashioned pitcher’s duel backed up by solid glove-work–ultimately won by the Tigers, 1-0.
Analy hurler Tyler Stasiowski (7 IP, 6 hits, 0 ERs, 9 Ks) and El Mo right-hander Sam Wilson-Mietz (6 IP, 7 hits, 0 ERs, 3 Ks) locked horns in a pair of great performances, scattering hits and pitching out of trouble when needed.
The Tigers finally broke through in the fifth when senior Luke Tollini drove home freshman Alex Leopard with the go-ahead run, lifting Analy to an eventual 1-0 victory.
The win pushed the Tiger’s Sonoma County League record to 3-3 and 10-7 overall, while the Lions fell to 4-2 and 10-5 on the season.
Pacing the Analy hitting attack were Tollini (1 for 3, RBI), Leopard (1 for 2, run), Evan Alvarez (1 for 3, 2B), Austin Alvarez (1 for 2), Tony Siri (1 for 3) and Will St. Martin (1 for 3, 2B). Hitting safely for the Lions were Curt Lewis (1 for 3), Shane Spelman (1 for 3), Jordan Hamner (1 for 3), Wes Hamner (1 for 3), Andy Junge (1 for 2) and Wyatt Stringfellow (1 for 3).
The Tigers will start a three-game home stand this week when they host Piner (April 24, after press time), Sonoma Valley (April 27) and Elsie Allen (April 30). All games start at 4 p.m.
The Lions were to open the week at Elsie Allen on April 24, followed by an April 27 road trip to Piner (4 p.m.). El Mo will visit Sonoma Valley on May 1 (7 p.m.).
