The varsity football Tigers claimed Sonoma Valley as its latest Sonoma County League victim on Friday at Karlson Field, dismantling an over-matched Dragons squad in a 55-0 romp in the annual Homecoming Game.
The Tigers (5-1, 2-0), who have not lost a league game since the SCL realignment in 2011, controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball to limit the Dragons to just 73 yards of total offense.
Analy will quickly turn its attention to the next task, preparing for a Saturday, Oct. 15 visit to Piner. Kickoff times for the JV and varsity are 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The Prospectors (2-5, 1-2) are coming off a 28-0 loss to Petaluma on Oct. 7 and figure to offer little resistance to a Tiger’s offense that is averaging 48 points per game.
Analy quarterback Jack Newman continued to re-write the record books on Friday against Sonoma, directing first-quarter scoring drives resulting in touchdown passes to running back Osiris Zamora (8 yards), receiver Eric Bendyk (31 yards). Zamora also found pay-dirt on a 55-yard scoring run as the Tigers took a 21-0 lead at the end of one.
The potent combo of Newman to Bendyk continued to light it up in the second period, hooking up on scoring strikes of 32 and 40 yards. Emerging junior running back Bennett Simpson added a 20-yard touchdown scamper and Analy led 42-0 at the break.
The Tigers emptied their bench after intermission with little drop-off in production, as reserve quarterback Brenden Medina found Carson Pforsich on a 2-yard scoring pass, followed by a 12-yard hook-up with Sam Ballenger to make it a 55-0 ballgame at the end of three.
The Tigers called off the dogs with a running game clock in the final period as they cruised to a 55-0 win.
Newman turned in a typically spectacular performance in just two quarters of play, completing 12 of 22 pass attempts for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns, giving him 26 for the year. Other offensive standouts included Medina (4-5, 29 yards passing, 2 TDs), Zamora (8-89 yards rushing, TD, 2-25 yards receiving, TD), Bendyk (4-142 yards receiving, 3 TDs), Simpson (2-24 yards receiving, TD, 1-19 yards receiving), Pforsich (2-10 yards receiving, TD), Ballenger (1-12 yards receiving, TD), Spencer Vogel (2-64 yards receiving) and Cristian Fajardo (5-26 yards rushing).
