On the southwest corner of the plaza, at 102 Matheson St., the Thumbprint Cellars team just ran their final weekend of wine tastings at their 15-year home in downtown Healdsburg. Second-generation winery owner Carter Lindstrom-Dake, son of Thumbprint founders Scott and Erica, told me over the phone last week that their last day open on plaza would be Sunday, Feb. 16.
From here on out, Thumbprint will be moving all operations to the winery’s more rural headquarters up in Geyserville, near the Lytton Springs exit off the 101. Carter explained that while much of the winery’s success over the past two decades can be attributed to its very public-facing outpost on Matheson, the time has come to focus on the experience for winery members — both locally in Geyserville, and at private remote tastings that the Thumbprint team has been hosting across the country.
“We’re taking an opportunity to transition the model of our business to gear more toward our wine-club members,” Carter said. He added that Thumbprint is shooting to host its first event at the Geyserville locale sometime in April — a pickup party for members — and then plans to start holding more public events and tastings come May or early summer. In an email that Thumbprint sent to its wine club, a screenshot of which was shared in the “Beverly Healdsburg” Facebook Group, the owners wrote: “We look forward to sharing this new experience with you to taste the same award-winning wines you’ve loved over the years.”
I’m not sure what will move into the coveted storefront at 102 Matheson St. once Thumbprint vacates, but I’m hearing rumblings that we may have another plaza tasting room in store. Will keep you posted! 🍷
