Parenti speaks on empires & elections
Michael Parenti, nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his new book,
will speak on the topic of “Empires and Elections” on Thursday,
Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall, 545 Pacific Ave. in
Santa Rosa. The talk is sponsored by the North Bay Progressive.
Parenti, whose new book is titled “The Assassination of Julius
Caesar: A People’s History of Ancient Rome,” is the author o more
than 250 articles and 17 books. He is a Berkeley resident and a
frequent commentator on KPFA and other progressive shows worldwide.
His talk will address the critical importance of the upcoming
presidential election within the context of empire building and
top-down political agendas. Tickets are $10 at the door, sliding

Celebrating the Year of the Monkey The Redwood
Empire Chinese Association will host its annual Chinese New Year
Celebration 2004 on Saturday, Feb. 28 starting at 5 p.m. (dinner
served at 6 p.m.) at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building,
1351 Maple Ave. The Year of the Monkey will be welcomed in with a
special performance by the Amazing Red Panda Acrobats. Tickets,
