Conjectures, EtceterasNutcracker with a local connection
The City Youth Ballet
will present The Nutcracker in San Francisco at the Cowell
Theater at Fort Mason on Dec. 6 & 7, at 2 p.m. each day and
also at 8 p.m. on Dec. 6. The local connection is that the City
Ballet School was recently purchased by Ken Patsel, an Analy High
School grad, class of 1979, and his wife, Galina Alexandrova, who
is the school’s artistic director. The performances will be danced
by students, ages 6 through 19. Tickets are $22.50 and available by
calling (415) 345-7575, or (415) 626-8878.
Stay away from the mushrooms, please
The Sonoma County Regional Parks Department is issuing a double
warning to park users that fancy wild mushrooms. Not only is it
illegal to harvest wild mushrooms in county parks, it is also “a
potentially dangerous undertaking.” Health officials warn that
mushroom collectors sometimes overestimate their ability to
distinguish deadly mushrooms. Non-toxic mushrooms may grow in the
same area with toxic ones, and even trained experts may confuse
edible mushrooms with the potentially deadly ones. The Sonoma
County Mycological Society will host a Mushroom Fair Dec. 14 at the
Sonoma County Museum in Santa Rosa.
