Perils of electronic voting
Think your vote is going to make a difference in the 2004
presidential election? You might think about it differently after
attending a public presentation on “Electronic Voting: Promise or
Peril” on Sunday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Healdsburg Senior Center,
133 Matheson St. The speaker will be Kim Alexander, president and
founder of the California Voter Foundation, a nonpartisan
organization. She will present the pros and cons of electronic
voting technology and the implications for democracy. Admission is
free. The event is being presented by the Healdsburg Peace
Project.
Clean Air Champions wanted
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is seeking
nominations for “Clean Air Champions” for its annual awards
program. The program honors individuals who make extraordinary
efforts toward clean, healthy air and are an inspiration to others.
The award program is sponsored by the air district, the American
Lung Association, the EPA and several Bay Area radio stations.
Winners of the awards will be announced in July and honored at a
public presentation in San Francisco. Nominations will be accepted
through May 21, 2004 and should be sent to Clean Air Champions, c/o
BAAQMD, 939 Ellis St., San Francisco, CA 94109. Application forms
are available at www.baaqmd.gov.
