Student/athletes will be remembered for their dedication and sportsmanship
The graduating class of student/athletes of 2017 from Cloverdale High School will be remembered for their many accomplishments, both on the field and in the classroom. The players selected in this issue were among the best and brightest of their class and all had one thing in common; they represented their school and respective teams with great dedication and sportsmanship. Although there were far too many seniors to list, we congratulate all of the athletes for their accomplishments and pay tribute to a few with words and pictures.
(1) Athleticism – Patrick Ojeda was among the top athletes of his graduating class, excelling in football and baseball. An all league lineman and star on both sides of the ball, Ojeda rose to become a team leader on the field and in the locker room. He was equally valuable on the baseball diamond in the spring, where he was among the team’s top hitters and a standout catcher. Photo Greg Clementi
(2) Endurance – Katie Edwards earned multiple varsity letters in cross country, basketball and track during a sparkling athletic career at Cloverdale, emerging as a leader on each team. A gifted runner on the cross country and track circuit, Edwards pushed the limits of endurance to become one of the best in the league. She spent her winters as a big contributor on Lady Eagle’s basketball teams. Photo provided
(3) Talent – Jayson McMillan will be remembered as one of the best to wear an Eagles uniform in a star-studded basketball career, carrying on a family legacy of excellence on and off the court. The team’s leading scorer and rebounder, McMillan led his teams to a pair of league titles and yearly trips to the NCS playoffs, garnering Most Valuable Player status along the way. (4) Dedication – Josie Marrufo was a fixture for the Lady Eagles’ softball program during four strong seasons, becoming one of the best players on her team. A versatile athlete that could play both infield and outfield, Marrufo helped lead Cloverdale to a couple of league titles and annual trips to the North Coast Section playoffs. Photo Greg Clementi
(5) Strength – Tristen Rege was athleticism personified during a great high school sports career at Cloverdale, using exceptional speed and toughness in both football and track. An all leaguer on the gridiron, Rege was a punishing running back that doubled as one of the team’s leading tacklers on defense. His tremendous speed translated well to the track, where he was a league champion sprinter. Photo Greg Clementi
