The graduating class of student/athletes of 2019 from Analy and El Molino high schools will be remembered for their many accomplishments, both on the field an in the classroom.
The athletes selected in this issue were among the shining stars of their class and all had one thing in common — they represented their school and teams with tremendous talent, dedication and sportsmanship.
Although there were too many seniors to list, we congratulate the athletes for their accomplishments and pay tribute to a few with words and pictures. The following is the second of a two-part series.
(1) SKILL — El Molino’s Sam Wilson-Mietz will be remembered as the best all around athlete in his graduating class, playing a starring role in multiple seasons on varsity football, basketball and baseball teams. A team captain and all leaguer in each sport, Wilson-Mietz was a force to be reckoned with and one of the all-time greats in Lions’ history. Photo Michael Lucid
(2) POWER — Analy’s Tyler Stasiowski was the best pitcher on his team in two stellar varsity seasons for the Tigers, contributing talent, consistency and production. A huge presence on the mound, Stasiowski gave his team a chance to win each game, helping the Tigers to a North Coast Section playoff berth. Photo Joe Ellwood
(3) VERSATILITY — El Molino scholar/athlete Wyatt Stringfellow used outstanding talent and versatility to earn an “Iron Lion” award on varsity football, basketball and baseball teams in a distinguished sports career for the Lions. Along the way, he was a great teammate and steady contributor, helping his teams reach the North Coast Section playoffs. Photo Michael Lucid
(4) STRENGTH — Analy’s Preston Bagan etched his name in the Analy High School record books in a star-studded, four-year wrestling career for the Tigers, capturing multiple individual league and tournament championships. His greatest achievements came in the post-season where he won a North Coast Section title and earned two trips to the prestigious CIF State Wrestling Championships, including one with his older brother Trevor. (5) CONSISTENCY — El Molino’s Chase Nicholls never played a sport he didn’t enjoy or excel at during a great four-year sports career, earning an “Iron Lion” award for playing three sports each year. Nicholls was a key member on El Mo football, basketball and baseball teams and a big reason for his team’s success. Photo Michael Lucid
(6) HEART — Analy’s Jimmy Carreras was a busy man in a strong, four-year athletic career on cross country, wrestling and track teams, making big contributions in each sport. Along the way, he was a among the Tigers’ best each season, establishing himself as a versatile athlete and great teammate. Photo Michelle Carreras
(7) CHARACTER — El Molino’s Jordan Hamner enjoyed a stellar, four-year run as an all league catcher on the varsity baseball team, rising to become one of the Lions’ top hitters. Along the way, Hamner helped the Lions compete with the league’s best teams and make yearly trips to the NCS playoffs. He was also a standout performer on the football field. Photo Dwight Sugioka
(8) PRODUCTION — Analy’s Quinn Vermeulen enjoyed multiple seasons on the Tigers varsity basketball teams during a sparkling sports career, making his mark as his team’s top scorer. Always a threat with the ball in his hands, Vermeulen was equally dangerous shooting from the perimeter or driving to the hoop, earning all league honors each season. Photo Greg Clementi
(9) DRIVE — El Molino’s Cassius Phillips logged a strong and versatile sports career in cross country, soccer and track teams. An “Iron Lion” recipient, Phillips was a big contributor in each sport, helping the Lions track team to its first league title in years. Photo Michael Lucid
(10) TOUGHNESS — El Molino’s Thomas Siegert was near the top of his class as a three-sport varsity athlete, excelling on Lions football, basketball and baseball teams. Siegert was a key player in each sport, infusing his teams with production, consistency and leadership in helping them reach the postseason. Photo Michael Lucid
(11) TALENT — Analy’s Sam Housman was in a class by himself when it came to dedication and endurance, as evidenced by his contributions on varsity soccer and basketball teams last winter. Housman did more than just show up, contributing off the bench in basketball while helping the Tigers soccer team to a winning season. His exploits on the soccer pitch helped his team land a spot in the postseason, earning him all league honors and the respect of coaches and teammates. No photo available
