VETERAN — Lane Hughes drove in three runs in a 10-0 varsity softball win over St. Helena.

Cloverdale pushes record to 22-0 with three wins
The Eagles will look to continue an historic 2019 league softball campaign this week when they close out the NCL1 softball schedule with one game remaining. Cloverdale resumed a relentless march toward an unbeaten season with recent wins over Middletown, Fort Bragg and St. Helena, pushing their league mark to 13-0 and 22-0 on the year.
At the time of this writing the Eagles had just played a May 7 home date with Lower Lake left before embarking on the all-important postseason.
Cloverdale, the defending NCS Division 5 champions, figures to land a decent seed in the upcoming North Coast Section Division 4 tournament after moving up one division in the wake of their recent success. The move should make for an interesting, if not challenging, playoff run this month. The NCS seeding committee will convene on May 12 to fill out the divisional bracket.
Cloverdale stays perfect
The Eagles began a final push toward league perfection with an April 30 tilt with visiting Middletown, wasting no time in dispatching the Mustangs in a 15-0 rout in five innings. Tehya Bird (5 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 BBs, 9 Ks) fired her second perfect game of the season, while top hitters were Heather Sterling (3 for 3, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Nicky Martinez (3 for 3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Bird (2 for 2, 2 2Bs, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Janaye Hammond (2 for 3, run, RBI) and Faith Holloman (2 for 2, 2 runs, RBI).
Cloverdale played host to Fort Bragg in a May 2 meeting, this time erasing a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth inning in an eventual 5-1 win. Bird (7 IP, 2 hits, ER, 6 Ks) earned the win, while leading batters included Sterling (2 for 3, run), Bird (2 for 4, 2 runs, RBI), Maci Hernandez (2 for 3), Hammond (2 for 4, 2B, run, 3 RBIs) and Holloman (2 for 3, run).
The Eagles closed out a three-game week on Friday against visiting St. Helena, jumping on the Saints for seven runs in the first two frames en route to a 10-0 victory. Bird (6 IP, 4 hits, 11 Ks) notched her 22nd win, while top hitters were Bird (2 for 4, 2B, HR, 4 runs, 4 RBIs), Alyssa Moffett (2 for 4, 2B), Lane Hughes (2 for 4, 2B, run, 3 RBIs), Sterling (2 for 3, 3 runs), Kaylee King (1 for 1), Holloman (1 for 3) and Ahnna Randolph (1 for 1, RBI).
