Windsor pushes record to 3-1-2
The Lady Jaguars are off to one of their best starts in years, continuing an outstanding preseason last week with three matches against top-flight opponents.
Windsor (3-1-2, 0-1) opened the stretch with a scoreless tie against perennial power Analy on Dec. 6 before dropping a frustrating 1-0 decision to Cardinal Newman on Friday. On Saturday, the Jags scored an impressive 2-1 win over Campolindo.
“We’re playing good soccer and creating a lot of opportunities except we’re having trouble finishing,” Jags coach Mark Archambault said. “Overall, I’m pleased with where we are at this point in the season.”
Windsor will be back on the pitch on Wednesday, Dec. 13 (after press time) when it hosts Casa Grande (6 p.m.) and visits Livermore this Saturday, Dec. 16 in a 3 p.m. varsity start. The Jags will travel to Rancho Cotate next Wednesday, Dec. 20 (6 p.m.).
Jags notch win
Windsor’s most impressive outing of the week came against Campolindo on Saturday, taking on a strong Cougars squad on their home turf in Moraga.
The Jaguars drew first blood when Katie Bianchi dished a pass to Amber Balogh, who beat the goalie in a one on one situation for a 1-0 lead. Campolindo would score to knot the match at 1-1 at the half.
The Lady Jags tallied what proved to be the winning goal in the second half when Balogh took a pass on a through ball from Sophie Vega and shot it past the goalie to grab the lead. Windsor dug in on defense the rest of the way to preserve a 2-1 win.
“We played a gutsy game with two of our key players (and captains) out in the second half,” Archambault noted. The team stepped up their play, frustrated the Campolindo attack and scored the winning goal.”
