Residents will have an opportunity to hear Supervisor candidates
Debora Fudge and Mike McGuire debate issues at an upcoming forum
sponsored by the Windsor Democratic Club and Windsor Chamber of
Commerce.
The debate will be held at 5:30 p.m. on May 11 at the Huerta Gym
(9291 Old Redwood Highway, Building 200) and last for about 90
minutes. Gary Quackenbush, President/ CEO of the Windsor Chamber of
Commerce and Visitors Center, will serve as moderator for the
debate.
After a coin flip to determine speaking order, the candidates
will make opening statements. Audience members will be able to
submit written questions and each candidate will make a closing
statement.
“Both candidates are no strangers to our region, having served
on local town councils as well as in other public capacities. We
hope that local residents will come prepared to ask questions and
get answers. There is room for more than 500 people in this
facility and we encourage the public to join us,” Quackenbush
said.
Rick Massell, president of the Windsor Democratic Club, said it
was important to hold another debate as it provided an opportunity
for residents to learn about the candidates and for the candidates
to learn about local issues.
Candidate Debora Fudge, who is also a member of the Windsor Town
Council, said in addition to helping residents choose who to vote
for, debates can help spectators understand the issues facing the
county. “We’re finding at other debates that people really leave
with a clear understanding of the issues,” she said. “It will help
people make their decisions.”
Massell said the event was also a chance for local residents to
tell the candidates what issues are important to them. “It’s an
opportunity for (candidates) to learn what (residents) are
concerned about,” he said. “Candidates can use that in their
campaign and if elected, they’ll know what to focus on.”
Candidate Mike McGuire, who is currently a member of the
Healdsburg City Council, said he is excited for the debate.
“Tuesday’s forum will provide folks an opportunity to ask questions
and to hear our plans about creating jobs, how we intend to improve
our schools, protect our environment and balance tough budgets. I
look forward to the discussion and to listening to the comments and
concerns that are brought forward,” he said.
