43 separate street segments receiving overlay
A massive street overlay project in Healdsburg is in progress, with 43 separate segments of streets receiving first a “chip” overlay, which will be followed next week by a slurry seal that will provide a smooth surface in contrast to the bumpy “chip” surface drivers are experiencing this week.
“It will be smoother when it’s done,” said Brent Salmi, the city’s Public Works Director, who said the final layer, which will be applied after Memorial Day, is called a microsurface and is a mixture of sand and oil.
The project, a contract worth more than $1 million, is being paid for by proceeds from Measure V, a special sales tax approved by Healdsburg voters in 2012.
The entire project, including new striping and final details, will be complete in mid-June.
