Editor: We just drove home from a hearing at the county planning
commission. Our neighbor winery (Copain, Eastside Road) will now be
able to host up to 10 weddings a year, with amplified music. I
argued that hospitality industry is not agricultural industry, but
got nowhere. On the way back we noted the further butchery of trees
on either side of Eastside Road; they’re cutting them back quite
far from the road.
A jail gang from Lake County is doing some of the work; CDF is
involved too. Probably stimulus money. Next they’ll want to widen
the road, no doubt, and raise the speed limit; when they should be
narrowing the road, putting in a bicycle road, and lowering the
speed limit.
