Spencer A. Gren Sr., 88, passed away December 24, 2003 in
Cloverdale. Spencer moved to Healdsburg in 1944 looking for work,
and settled into Sonoma County to raise his family with his wife,
Marguerite. “Dad didn’t do anything special except work hard and
raise his kids,” recalled his daughter, Wanda Alary. “He was a good
man, a hard working guy. In a quiet way, he made an impact on us.
He will be missed.” Spencer was an avid fisherman and loved to
garden. His daughter said that he always wanted to catch a
steelhead in the Russian River, but it never happened. Spencer was
a native of Valley Springs. He was the beloved husband of 62 years
to Marguerite Gren; loving father and father-in-law of Wanda and
Larry Alary, and Spencer and Nita Gren all of Healdsburg, Bob and
Connie Gren of Cloverdale; dearest brother of Emily Drendall of
Stockton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joe, Mark,
Tina, Ron, Rod, Robbie and four great-grandchildren. Spencer
retired in 1975 from Louisiana Pacific (Sonoma Wood). A private
family gathering will be held. Memorial donations to A.L.S.A. or
your favorite charity would be greatly appreciated.
