Jags drop league games to Rancho, Ukiah; beat Terra Linda
The Lady Jaguars took a few lumps in the opening week of the North Bay League season, dropping road and home games to Rancho Cotate (9-3) and Ukiah (4-1).
Windsor (4-3, 0-2) shook off the rough NBL start on Saturday in a non-league visit to Terra Linda, easily defeating the host Trojans, 10-3.
“We hit the ball hard and really showed up that game,” WHS coach Morgan Rasmason said after the Terra Linda win. “I’m hoping we’ll carry the momentum from this game into this week.  Kayla (Scott) threw all the games and has been doing her job of getting the other team to hit grounders, our defense just needs to be more consistent in backing her up and making those plays,” she added.
At press time the ladies were preparing to resume league action with an April 4 home tilt against Maria Carrillo before visiting Santa Rosa on Thursday, April 6. Both games start at 4 p.m.
“I’m excited for this week because Sydney Hage will be eligible to play after her transfer waiting period,” Rasmason said, referring to the sophomore transfer from Cloverdale. “We now have another pitcher which gives us a lot more options in the field and batting lineup.”
Jags open league
Windsor kicked off the NBL schedule on March 28 at Rancho Cotate, and the Cougars looked every bit the defending league champions. Rancho struck for a combined four runs in the first two innings and busted it wide open with a five-run third en route to a 9-3 win.
Scott (6 IP, 13 hits, 9 runs, (3 Ks) took the loss, while top hitters were Maddie Pellman (1 for 3, 2B, run, RBI), Gracie Hernandez (1 for 3) and Caitlyn Murphy (1 for 3, RBI).
The Lady Jags entertained Ukiah on March 30, a 4-1 loss that could easily have gone the other way if not for a few key plays.
“I felt like we gave them the game,” Rasmason noted. “We had three (fielding) errors and just weren’t making the smart plays. We didn’t show up, there was no drive or desire from our girls to want the ball and want the win. We hit a lot better than we did in the Rancho game, but Ukiah’s center fielder stole a few from us with great catches.”
Scott (7 IP, 11 hits, 4 runs, 4 Ks) deserved a better fate in taking the loss. Hitting safely for the Jags were Scott (2 for 3, 2B), Hernandez (1 for 3) and Alyssa De Casas (1 for 1).
The Windsor bats came alive in an April 1 trip to Terra Linda, erupting for nine hits and majestic home runs from Scott, Hernandez and Kasandra Jaramillo en route to a 10-3 rout.
Scott (7 IP, 7 hits, 3 runs, 4 Ks) picked up the win while top hitters included Hernandez (2 for 4, HR, 2 runs, RBI), Jaramillo (2 for 3, HR, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Pellman (2 for 4, run, 2 RBIs), Scott (1 for 4, HR, run, RBI), Ashley Golding (1 for 4, run) and De Casas (1 for 3, 3B, 2 runs).
