FRONT RUNNERS – Hoping to lead their respective teams at the NCS Cross Country Championships are Analy’s Alec Dierke and El Molino’s Jake Chauvin.

Poor air quality from the Camp Fire in Butte County continued to plague the cross country season on Nov. 17, forcing the postponement of the North Coast Section Championships in Hayward.
The postponement of the NCS meet directly followed the cancellation of the North Bay League finals a week earlier, an event that had been held continuously since 1921.
At press time the NCS Championships, a qualifier for the state meet, had been rescheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 20, in Hayward, pending improved air quality. The CIF State Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 24, at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Should the NCS meet be cancelled again, a process has been put in place for athletes to apply for a state bid. An NCS Advancement committee will decide which athletes are qualified to run at the state meet.
