The Tubbs fire came over the hills from Napa County, sweeping down through sleeping neighborhoods in the early morning hours of October 9.

The worst wildfires in California history devoured more than 85,000 acres in Sonoma County in mid-October, destroying more than 5,700 homes and businesses. Twenty three people lost their lives in the fires in Sonoma County, and, as of this writing, 50 people are still missing. Tens of thousands of people throughout the county were evacuated. For two weeks, people lived from Nixle alert to Nixle alert, waiting to see if their neighborhood would be next. The cause of the fires remains unknown.
