The Greeting Card Project For Our Troops:
Monday, March 10 at 10 a.m., Healdsburg Senior Center, 133 Matheson St. We were approached by representatives of Beacon Home Care with a very special project that they would like to bring to our center. We are aware that many of you are retired service members and if you’re not a retired service member you have probably had at least one family member who has served throughout the years in one or more branch of the armed forces.
You know best of all what it means to receive a letter, card or package from home. Part of Beacon Home Care’s mission is to partner with other groups who put together care packages for our deployed troops.
Our part in this valuable project would be to write cards that would be included in these special care packages.
We invite you to join us at the Senior Center on Monday, March 10, at 10 a.m. to write and decorate cards to our dedicated troops. We are hoping for a great turnout and to send numerous cards to our service members! We are going to try and do this on a monthly basis if we get enough folks who are willing to help. If you have trouble writing – no problem, you can dictate and we will have someone write the card for you.
We provide all the materials – All we need is you.
The AARP SMART Driver Refresher course
Friday, March 21 from 1 to  5:30 p.m. AARP Member $15 – Non-Member $20 payable to instructor. Checks only please.
The AARP SMART Driver course is a course designed especially for the older driver. It takes into consideration the physical changes of the maturing driver and identifies ways the older driver can compensate for those changes. Course material is based on information gained through research to determine what is needed by this age group to update driver knowledge and skill. Most important, the curriculum provides opportunities for the participants to identify individual problem areas and apply information that is needed to improve their behavior as drivers.
The refresher course is a four and a half hour class to keep those skills current as well as update drivers on recent changes to the driving laws. If you’ve taken the beginning course within the last three years, you can take this refresher course and keep your certificate current. Many insurance companies will provide a discount to your auto insurance cost by keeping your certificate current.
Santa Rosa Junior College Older Adults classes:
The Psychology of C.G. Jung with Robin Gates. Wednesdays, 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Fireside Room at the  Healdsburg Senior Center.
Individuation is a term Carl Jung used to refer to the lifelong process of becoming the complete human beings we were meant to be. It is awakening to our total selves, which involves the conscious personality being in communication with the unconscious. Jung believed that if we try to ignore this inner work, the unconscious will find its way into our lives through psychosomatic symptoms, depressions, and neuroses. In this class, we will look at the individuation process and Jung’s model of the psyche which include such concepts as ego, persona, and shadow; complex, symbol, and the archetypes and the collective unconscious; and the psychology of the sacred. We will also engage in exercises that invite an attitude conducive to unlocking the unconscious in order to find strengths, resources, and healing waiting to be discovered.
